Typing the same words or phrases over and over again can be tiring. Official letters, addressed to important people, must contain certain expressions like "Dear sir or madam", "Best regards" and so on. Using Phrase Express, this type of routine can be automated, saving you valuable time. It will run as a system tray icon and it will work like an auto-correct tool. As you type a letter, it will suggest certain words with pop-ups, correct spelling mistakes and more.

The program's setup file is 4 Mb large, so downloading it should not take too long, even on a slower Internet connection. While going through the installation wizard, you will only have to set a destination path and choose from a few options, such as launching Phrase Express at system startup.

The software is compatible with anything which involves typing. If you are working in MS Word, a standard notepad or if you are composing an email, Phrase Express will help you with the same efficiency. As mentioned before, the program will run as a system tray icon. It will adapt to the words you are typing and it will complete ones automatically. This will not be uncomfortable like a mobile phone's auto-correct function. As you type, the program will suggest certain words in a pop-up and you can insert a word by clicking one or by hitting the corresponding numpad key.

The program's interface can be brought up by clicking the Settings option after clicking the system tray icon. With the options found in this settings window you can create pre set words or phrases and set how they will be inserted. Phrase Express offers great flexibility when doing this. With the aid of a tree structure, on the left side of the settings window, you can access a very wide range of presets, like famous quotes, common abbreviations, salutations and more. They are all organized in a large number of folders and subfolders, according to their categories and it is also possible to create your own folders or phrases.

Regardless of what you choose from the tree structure, the options on the right side of the window will be the same. A description and the contents of a phrase can be typed in two separate dialog boxes. Beneath them, you will find a set of easy to use options which will help you configure a hot key or an auto-text. When setting a hot key, you can choose to use the Shift, Ctrl, Alt or Win key or all of them by clicking their designated buttons, and the final key from the combination can be selected from a drop menu. The auto-text can be customized beneath the hot key options. You just need to type something in a dialog box. This can be a word, an abbreviation or anything you want. If the program detects that keystroke, it will automatically insert your specified phrase. Alternatively, you can set Phrase Express to prompt you with a pop-up before anything else by choosing an action from a drop menu. For example, you can type the phrase "if I remember correctly", type "iirc" as the trigger word and select "execute immediately" from the drop menu. The next time you need to type "if I remember correctly", you can just type "iirc" and the whole phrase will be added automatically. This can save you a lot of time when composing writing code, or any other text which contains repetitive phrases.

Pros

Phrase Express works like an auto-correct tool, but it is more comfortable to use and it features very flexible customization options. It works as a system tray icon and it is compatible with any software which involves typing.

Cons

There is no clear mention on how long the trial period lasts or if the software is free for personal use. You can write an entire text in half the time with Phrase Express. It can automate any phrase and you can insert it right away, either with hot keys or by typing an abbreviation.
